The Luxury Exhibit…

“Luxury – A Close Encounter with Extravagance, Vanity, And Excess” in FIT’s Fashion and Textile History Galleries featured two standouts for me.

One was the “Subway Ensemble” a Norell camel wool coat lined in gold sequins shown over a matching gold sequined dress, for luxury that is personal, private, and hidden. No one on the Subway would know you were dressed in sequins under your wool coat until you arrive at the party.

And the other were the Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton gilded leather, silk, and mink oxfords. Providing luxury that is desirable but not essential, and very expensive.
